This is an introduction to Visual Arts in all its facets: art-making, art history, and art criticism. It is a year-long course comprised of two semesters: one semester explores two-dimensional (or flat) art the other explores three dimensional design (or sculpture and architecture). Students must successfully complete this class before taking in other Visual Arts classes.
Students will acquire develop fundamental art-making skills which will lay the foundation for success in higher level courses. We will work in a variety of media including pencil, charcoal, acrylic, watercolor, clay, plaster, and a wide range of other sculptural materials. Art-making is the focus of this course, but knowledge of art history and criticism are also essential to the development of art-making skills and will be an important aspect of study.
In order to be successful in this class, students need work ethic. Making art requires problem solving, creativity, and focus. The most important criteria for success is attendance: you have to be there to make the art.
